Adults and their toddlers actively participate in this storytime together, so sit close together and help the child follow along. Books suitable for toddlers are available for checkout after the storytime. Come a few minutes early, so the toddler can get a nametag and meet the librarian.
The Noon Mystery Book Club - Meets in the Dona Benicia Room the first Wednesday of the month at noon. Read the book, bring your lunch and join in the discussion. This month they will be discussing "Morality for Beautiful Girls" by Alexander McCall Smith

ESL Summer Class begins June 19, 2008 and end on August 11th. They are held on Monday and Thursday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Free Summer Literacy Computer Lab on Mondays and Thursdays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
The Library will be hosting a series of Video Game Afternoon thoughout the summer. Kids can drop by the Library and play an assortment of games. Age 8-19 years
Friends members only pre-sale - On the Thursday evening before the monthly book sale there is a pre sale for members of the Friends in the Library basement from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Membership is available at the door.

In conjunction with the Peddlars Fair the Friends of the Benicia Public Library will be holding their regular 2nd Saturday of the month Book Sale plus a White Elephant Sale. Notice the early starting time.
Come see and hear the stories captured for the California of the Past Oral History Grant. We will unveil stories about early Benicia, about discovering this town as a wonderful place to live, and highlighting special events through time.

Becoming a Tutor

Potential tutors receive 13.5 hours of training before being matched with a learner. The training consists of an evening orientation and 2 Saturday sessions, and is offered quarterly.
This class will focus on basic word processing skills such as cutting, pasting, some formatting and learning about the toolbars for word processing. Must have taken the Mouse Tutorial Class or be familiar with the mouse. Plus typing skills are required for the class. Registration is required and classes are full so call 746-4343 for more information and to be signed up for future classes.

The Junior Kids’ Book Club is for kids in 2nd and 3rd grades (starting Fall of 2008). Meetings are the 4th Tuesday of each month at 3:30 p.m. Books for the next month’s read are handed out at the meeting or are at the Reference Desk after the meeting. This month we will be reading "Tippy Lemmey" by Patricia C. McKissack.

Tails-n-Tales is a program where children from grades 1 through 5 can come and read to a dog individually. Since each child gets 15 minutes alone with the dog, you will need to sign up at the Customer Service Desk.
