Book Clubs General Information

Adult Book Clubs

In May of 2002, the Benicia Public Library began sponsoring book clubs for adult readers. There are usually an average of 8-12 participants each month. Each reader has their own take on the book, which makes our discussions interesting and sometimes very lively. In most of our Clubs we have a mixture of men and women and this also makes for interesting discussion.

There are very few rules that our book clubs adhere to. One of the rules is that the books we read must be in paperback as the Library supplies the books for the Club. Yes, you don’t have to go out and find the book, just stop by the Reference Desk, pick up the book and check it out. Also, it is not always necessary for you to finish the book for the month. Most of our members do finish the book, but if you did not have time to finish, we still want you to come, join in the discussion and be one of the first to pick up the book for next month.

All of our clubs work on a drop in basis. You are not obligated to sign up for a certain period of time. You can come when there is a particular book you are interested in, or you can come every month. One of the great advantages of being in a book club is that you will probably read books you never would have read on your own. What a great way to expand your reading.
