8th ANNUAL MOONLIGHT FILM CONTEST FOR YOUTH

DEADLINE: Wednesday, August 27 9PM

If you are a filmmaker between the ages of 12 and 22 and want to enter the Contest, dust off your camera and start filming. Come to the Benicia Public Library to pick up an entry form or download one from our website at the bottom of our teen events page. Read ahead for more information about the Contest and the Festival.

Whether a novice or expert, anyone between the ages of 12 and 22 can create a film for the contest as long as it fits a few criteria:

  1. The films must be appropriate for all ages
  2. The key members of the crew must be between the ages of 12 &22 years old
  3. The films must be submitted in DVD format

Although there is no actual time limit for the films, the Library suggests that the time remain under 20 minutes. (Most films range between five and ten minutes long, but there have been films as short as one minute.) The Library reserves the right to edit films to fit time constraints.

The categories for films are beginner and advanced. The filmmakers are placed into the category dependent upon the amount of experience he or she has had, including:

  1. The number of films made
  2. Film classes or workshops attended
  3. Past film festivals entered & awards received

The sky is the limit when it comes to the genres of the films. Filmmakers have entered documentaries, mock-umentaries, music videos, satires, horror, comedy, romance, science fiction, adventure, animation, claymation and many more original ideas.
