Teen Advisory Board
Teen Advisory Board
The Teen Advisory Board (affectionately referred to as TAB) is a monthly open-forum lead by the TAB Coordinators, teen employees of the Library, where teens discuss the issues related specifically to teen use of the library (materials and events). TAB helps the Teen Services Librarian and the TAB Coordinators come up with new library events especially designed for teens. They also spend time hanging out, getting to know each other and eating free food from local Benicia restaurants that come with every meeting! (All meals are brought to you by Friends of the Library!)
We always need more teens willing to share ideas and suggestions on how to make the library a better place for teens. Anyone (age 13-19) is welcome to attend our meetings, which are usually held the last Monday of each month from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Check the Events Page for exact dates and times!
Want more information about TAB? Call the Teen Services Librarian at 707.746.4345, or e-mail her.
By the way, once per year, the Teen Advisory Board holds a contest for designs for the official Teen Volunteer t-shirts.
TAB Mission Statement
What is the purpose of our Teen Advisory Board? Two former TAB Coordinators, Olivia and Lauren, took a deep look at what TAB does for its teens and the Library. This is what they came up with:
The Benicia Public Library Teen Advisory Board is committed to creating a youth (13-19 years) friendly library by aiding in the availability of popular and relevant media, and planning and implementing active youth programs that are interesting, safe and fun.
TAB Coordinators
Our TAB Coordinators are the appointed teen supervisors who watch over the volunteers and Teen Advisory Board to make sure that we are maintaining our cool and nifty demeanor. Despite being tasked with this awesome responsibility, they're really very friendly and did we mention that these are paid positions?!
Currently, our TAB coordinators are Rachel and Celena, two dedicated teens who have been involved in TAB, volunteering and attending Library programs for teens over the past three years.
